TRUTH #22 - TEACHING BY THE EXAMPLE WE SET

This is Day #22 of 30 TRUTHS IN 30 DAYS

TRUTH #22 - Most of what children learn from their parents isn’t taught on purpose.

When you stop and think about how malleable a child is and how careless and blind an adult can be at times, the combination often times leads to lifelong scars.

  1. I have to think about that a little...

Maybe it isn't learnt on purpose either...it's taken in subconsciously?

I'm the product of my parents, yes, but also a strong line of Appalachian women.

I worry that I scarred my daughter for life during her young years, before I got on my medicine.

  2. We all learn by example especially when we're young. Often times adults are so caught up in their own worlds/drama that they overlook how their actions effect others. Hey. we're parents...we're supposed to feel guilty! Seriously, I always say the proof is in the pudding and it wasn't until my children became adults that I was able to accept that I must have done something right because they are such decent human beings. I'm sure Chelsea is resilient and she too comes from a strong line of Appalachian women. Stand back and allow yourself the luxury of a pat on the back for a job well done.

  3. Had I not had children I would have struggled along not knowing what kind of idiot I am. To them, I am forever grateful. They still like me!

    1. Children always seem to have the knack of making things crystal clear! Mine still like me, too!

  4. So true. I see children and sometimes, they say things that if their parents only knew... You have to love kids for that. They pick up on the finer details of life rather then what we want from them.

    1. Kids are great until they become teenagers and then they need to be locked in a closet 'til they are about 30. LOL
