30 TRUTHS IN 30 DAYS - DAY TWENTY-SIX

Truth #26: The house I grew up in was built in the early 1830's. The fact of the matter is that houses aren't built like that anymore. Cheaper materials are used and things just don't last as long these days. I'm sure you've noticed this about just everything you buy now!  Also, modern architecture is so sterile and without any real character. It seems to be all about geometric shapes. Where there was once detail and craftsmanship now there are sharp, lackluster angles and curves meant to spark your imagination. Let's compare a few buildings of the past with those of the present and see which ones rank higher on the list of those we prefer.

The Present

  1. Is that a big slide on the first one? Hmmmm, I could live with that. That give me an idea!

  2. I rather like the new build that you featured - but suspect that they are not built to last. The new builds I object to are the sterile boxes 'that all look just the same'. That said I am blown away by the older buildings. Often. Buildings built by hand without the benefit of machinery and computers. Buildings that last. And deserve to last.

    1. I know what you mean. I see some housing developments that every house looks the same and I wonder how people can tell what house is theirs. Geez! I'd hate to get drunk and try to come home and find my house! lol Oh yeah...that's when you call an Uber and let them find it for you. hahahahahaha!

    1. The older builds seem to have more character for some reason and have withstood the test of time. When the newer builds are thrown in amongst the older ones they look so out of place. In order to look perfect they need to stand alone to stand out.
